for the home, the hunt, and the apocalypse
About Us
At FeatherCap Forge we design, forge, grind, heat treat, polish, haft, and sheathe everything we produce in our small shop in Juneau, Alaska. We make axes, knives, and swords from monosteel, Damascus, san mai, and stainless steel and use natural and synthetic material for the hafts. We've invested in quality heat treating equipment, including high temp and low temp salt pots, a temperature controlled 70 gallon sword forge, and liquid nitrogen for cryo; however, we understand that geometry and craftsmanship are the keys to building an attractive and effective blade.
While we have our favorite styles, we are happy to collaborate with customers in the design process. Follow us on Instagram to see our latest work.

Finn Morley
Finn started smithing at age seven after he and his father serendipitously met Mike Deibert in a hospital in Managua, Nicaragua. Mike connected Finn with a local blacksmith, Jaime, who turned out to be an incredibly patient, gracious and innovative teacher. Finn has been hooked ever since.
Recently, Finn is focusing on forging integrals and carving images into his sheaths. His favorite style of knife continues to be the Buccaneer, a knife design he developed during his first year bladesmithing.
Finn is also a college student, musician, runner, nordic skier, and classic car enthusiast.

Steve Morley
Steve started smithing as the third wheel in Finn's classes and was able to pick up the basics by following along. Over the past 10+ years he has worked hard to build and acquire the necessary knowledge and tools to make FeatherCap Forge an efficient workshop. Steve has attended classes at the New England School of Metalwork and with David Lisch in Seattle and is currently most interested in the blades wielded by the Norse and Anglo-Saxons.
When not in the smithy, Steve impersonates a math/science teacher at the Juneau Community Charter School, where he also coaches cross country running, archery, and blacksmithing.
